About HP

I’m Hannah Phillips (HP) b. 1997 in Pittsburgh, PA.

I am a self-taught oil painter. My practice orbits heavily around themes of intuition and knowing (and discovering) oneself. Most of my work focuses on large-scale figurative works with narrative compositions - there is always a combination of gestures, symbols, or objects that implores a viewer to dig deeper into a piece, to uncover a hidden meaning. The complete bodies of work I have produced double as interactive mysteries. Over the last decade I have incorporated recurring subjects, motifs and color palettes into my work that have come together to build an entire universe for my paintings. With influences from Baroque-period artists, I’ve reimagined and tweaked their scenes in a modern way, creating a novel yet familiar world for my paintings that invite you to lose yourself…and then find yourself again.
